Our Story

Leonard’s began as a dream 30 years ago in 1989 when two Kiwi blokes embarked on a mission to make high quality meats affordable to everyone. Roll onto today and Leonard’s is a true New Zealand success story with a full range of tantalising meats, awards up the wazoo and our customers coming back for more.

Today we’re the Kiwi meat specialists serving up all your family faves from our award-winning sausages, bacon and deli meats to our legendary crowd-pleaser, our manuka smoked Christmas Ham. Our meats pack a flavour punch, so no weird ingredients needed. We’ve even got you sorted with gluten free goodies to tempt every palette. Our People

Leonard’s founding partners handed over the baton in 2019 to Robert and  Elisabeth Bell after 30 years at the helm. The husband and wife duo were ready to flex their business muscles and luckily for Leonard’s, the pair followed their passion for food.

Robert, who has donned the CEO hat, reckons he’s a dab hand in the kitchen making dinner time sizzle for Elisabeth and their two kids.

Elisabeth is no shrinking violet either when it comes to her masterchef kitchen moments thanks to her back-to-nature upbringing on a lifestyle block in sunny Gisborne.

Robert and Elisabeth have a tonne of ideas up their sleeves for more exceptional, mouthwatering meats in cheeky new products ready for Kiwi tables across the country. Their Leonard’s story has only just begun!

Our Products

Our award-winning range includes the best in bacon, sensational sausages made from local and international recipes, succulent roast beef, and exciting European deli meats, and our legendary Christmas hams with a manuka-smoked Kiwi twist. Importantly Leonard’s is very proud of its “Ham Steak”.  Our meat products include everything you want and nothing you don’t, with a stack of gluten free goodies to cater for dietary needs. Our practices follow world-class safety standards so you’re guaranteed the best in every bite.
